Lessons In Time - Lady Wisdom At The Gate (Proverbs) (2014)

/New Weird Australia, Dream folk, Noir folk, Anti-folk, Freak folk, Weird folk, Indie folk, Electronic, Psych-folk, Experimental folk, Folk indie, Avant-folk/

Comment: I can`t stand for those persons` opinion who hyped Animal Collective throughout the 00s but nowadays speaking silly things by accusing the Avey Tare & Panda Bear led combo by introducing naïve and simplistic elements into the pop music. All what has been created by the group throughout the 00s was innovative and spellbinding. Another essential element related to them (basically with them and Devendra Banhart) was to introduce the movement of the so-called New Weird America which had a huge influence on other countries folk musicians either. Eventually we did have a chance to see how much potential could have folk music if to cross it with other genres. Australia is one of those countries wherefrom have come off a loads of groups with tremendous aesthetical ability. For instance, I recommend listen to the compilations of New Weird Australia at Bandcamp to comprehend the phenomenon. The Sydney-based collective Lessons In Time is being active since the second half of 00s and having issued four albums so far (at least more issues I was not personally able to figure out). The combo`s 6-track issue is a relatively short-running one though involving a multitude of twists and undercurrents to undermine a trivial folk music body. From sublime dreamy female vocal led meditations to more noir drenched vocal timbres and guitar experiments to voice machine/vocoder drenched vocal experiments to distorted guitar hook based elevations into noise rock embodiment to compositions let to evolve within open space/nearby the campfire somewhere. All of that described recently it is not a simplistic show-off but an organic shift from one element to another.

J.Rojas - Hool-e-un (2013)

9.5

/Glo-fi, Chillwave, Alternative, Dream pop, Electronic pop, Poptronica/

Comment: this set of 4 pieces used to extend from chillwave-esque indie electronica and autotuned hypnagogic magic to blossoming, dream-soaked rhythm alchemistry. Very expressive and therefore impressive by any senses. Julian Rojas comes out from Sydney, Australia and being a good example of the flourishing underground scene on the Green Continent at the moment.

RantZen - Inzi Ma Mul Kar b/w Oyo Vor Keskva (2006)

/Club dance, Experimental electro, Gore-electro, Avant-electro, Experimental techno, Avant-techno, Dark electro/

Comment
: actually not very much time ago I discovered a Sydney, Australia-based label, called 4-4-2 Music which used to publish an intricate rhythm-based vista of club music which apparently does have more experimental approach and angle than usually in the abovementioned field. There are up a pair of tracks which constitute intensely thudding bass-driven oscillations in the vein of murky electro and massively stomping techno music. However, Andy Rantzen`s music is witty and whimsical. The cadences are decorated with subdued, even moaning (indecipherable) vocal lines (the influences of goregrind????) and some constitutive sonic effects within it. The issue is a classic one which is directed upon the listener`s body and soul. This is our gore-electro.

Cocolixe - 442-net7-10may (2010)

/New Wave, Industrial techno, Breaks, Sound collage, Experimental techno/

Comment
: a Barcelona, Catalonia-based producer provides a pair of captivating outlets which function as an array of cut-ups of diverse stylistical ingredients. A Day of Happiness shows up static kind of looming taking on restraint techno, beatific synth seeds and slight electro vibes above and around it. The second one, Lift Your Eyes used to chime like the early Cabaret Voltaire would have produced more electro-spinning grooves instead of a provoking, nihilistic industrial-charged punch. Indeed, besides the likeness with industrial groups the whole resembles more of the 80`s than the logic of nowadays musical directions and aspirations - all those dance-appealed post-punk groups and New Wave/synth pop combos from the Foggy Albion in ending part of 70`s and at the beginning of 80`s come in mind. So you can say it is a little bit more than just one endeavor amongst the others. Mandatory for all the melomans all around the world!
