Antique Electronic / Synthesizer Greats 1955 - 1984 Part 1 (2011)

9.2

/Sampledelic, Cut and paste, Experimental electronica, Synth pop, Robot pop, Industrial, Electronic pop, Conceptual/

Comment: there are presented 26 tracks which are reconstructed on the basis of cut-ups of the tracks of seminal electronic combos from the years 1955-1984. Thereby it can be said this vast amount of pieces embodies a wide array of (experimental) electronica tendencies and branches, however, all of them are intriguingly accomplished - at times showcasing brain-centric aspirations, at times more disco-oriented bleeds, at times more synth pop oriented bouncy vibes, at times showing up nihilistic industrial abrasiveness. The traces hark back to such artists as Kraftwerk, Giorgio Moroder, Throbbing Gristle, Vangelis if to point out to just some artists over there). In a word, It is a remarkable, sweating work by Robbie Martin.

Jonas the Plugexpert - Ondervlak (2010)

8.8

/IDM, Downtempo, Remixes, Experimental electronica, Sampledelic, Jungle, Electronic pop, Breakcore/

Comment: the Netherlands-based sonic explorer Richard Jonas launched his musical activity at the beginning of 90`s then operating with protracker on Amiga 500. Since this moment he has posted up a lot of releases over the internet (mainly at Bandcamp). Ondervlak is a huge publication of 28 compositions standing at the intersection between soothing downtempo, acidic electronic pop, gleaming IDM-esque propulsions and more blustery jungle and breakcore endeavours (which do refer at his past activities either sometimes). Inspite of the abovementioned stylistical boundaries the contents staying in between them do involve much more information than it is allowed to communicate it with possibly exact words. The predominant part of the album had been produced in a timespan of 5 years, between the years of 2005-2010. In addition to original tracks there are presented 4 remixes. In a word, the quality of the issue is undoubtedly high, the only problem is that it is way too long.

Kinskop - Home Folder (2010)

9.1

/Post-rock, Remixes, Indietronica, Art pop, Ambient pop, Downtempo, DIY/

Comment: at the first sight this batch of tracks  seems to composed of ragged-edged rhythms which is mixed up with lo-fi/DIY attitude and electro-acoustic tendencies in a loos way. However, by listening to it onward the result can be considered a charmingly flawed vision being spotted upon the realm of post-rock/chamber rock and indietronic horizons where wiry yet bewitching guitar chords are interlaced with lush concrete sounds and sometimes more ambient/and downtempo-related progressions (in a remix track, entitled Carwindow Creatures by Vertical67).

Ebola - Brodmann Area (2008)

/Grime, Electro, Ambient, Avant-garde, Crossover, Experimental electronica, Industrial techno, Experimental electro/

Comment: Ben Hudson aka DJ Psylage (also known from a group, called Baconhead – with Paul Bowyer) comes from Devon, UK. Before this 6-pieced issue, however, he released music of diverse styles on such labels as Mutant Spider, Wrong Music, Sublight, and Proboscus. Similarly to his previous issues the dominantly instrumental Brodmann Area does have lots of cues to a loads of different styles, offering splashing industrial techno/and electro beats, grime-drenched dystopic-ness, slap-up tekno overthrows, digital glitch and eerily hollow ambient shades and much more worth to be discovered from this classic patchwork. The EP should not be misunderstood – this is not intended to be issued for dance floors, instead of it for your peripheric brain cells. Furthermore, by its ideological point, it is rather a hint at old school music for sure.
